The digital age has brought us brand new ways for businesses and consumers to interact with each other. No longer do you have to play the waiting game of seeing results from that print ad or billboard and how it’s gotten you some new customers. Instead of the long wait, digital marketing offers results and real-time analytics. But how can you use digital marketing effectively? Start with the strategy. A digital strategy is your blueprint and game plan on how and what you’re going to do to achieve your digital goals.
Here’s 3 reasons why having a digital strategy is so important:
1 – Gives your business direction
Without a strategy, your business is basically a boat sailing on the waters, but everyone on board only has a vague idea of what island they want to land on and how they’ll get there. A digital strategy will give your company direction towards a specific destination. Having a cohesive strategy can help you get the most out of your digital marketing because you’ll have a set plan on how you’re going to reach specific goals. And not those vague goals like “improve sales” or “increase engagement”, I’m talking about those SMART goals.
2 – Better ROI
If you have a straightforward strategy that sets specific, time-sensitive goals, you’re better able to measure what’s working and what isn’t and change accordingly. Being able to measure the results of your strategy consistently and seeing how those compare to your cost-related benchmarks will usually result in a better ROI compared to not having a strategy in place at all.
3 – Analytics and more analytics
Ok, sure you can still check out your analytics even when you don’t have any clear strategy or goals, but that info won’t mean as much if you didn’t know what you wanted to reach in the first place. Having a digital strategy means that all those analytics and data and info can tell you how close or far or way off track you are from reaching your specific goals. The numbers will actually mean something and tell you important information in relation to how well your strategy is working.
